in Ireland
An oil tank is a long-term investment — most domestic heating oil tanks in Ireland are expected to last 20–25 years when correctly sited and maintained. Whether you're replacing an old steel tank, building a new home or specifying for a commercial project, the right choice comes down to three things: capacity, tank type, and compliance with Irish regulations.
Bunded vs single-skin oil tanks
A bunded oil tank is a tank-within-a-tank — the inner tank holds the fuel, the outer tank captures any leak. Under Irish EPA guidance, bunded tanks are required for any installation over 2,500 litres, within 10 metres of a watercourse, or within 50 metres of a borehole or well. For most new domestic installations a bunded tank is the safer, more compliant choice.
Single-skin tanks remain suitable for replacement installations where site conditions allow, and typically come in at a lower price point. If you're unsure which applies to your site, talk to a specialist before you order.
What size oil tank do I need?
As a rough guide, a typical 3-bed home uses 1,500–2,000 litres of heating oil per year. A 1,200L–1,400L tank covers most domestic households with one or two deliveries a year; larger homes, oil-fired Aga or pool heating may justify a 1,800L–2,500L tank. Commercial and agricultural sites usually start at 5,000L.
- 1–2 bed home — 1,000L to 1,200L
- 3–4 bed home — 1,200L to 1,800L
- Large / rural home — 1,800L to 2,500L
- Commercial / agricultural — 5,000L upwards

All FAQs
FAQsDo I need a bunded oil tank for my home?
Bunded tanks are mandatory under Irish regulations for installations over 2,500 litres, within 10m of a watercourse, or within 50m of a borehole or well. Most new domestic installations should use a bunded tank for safety and resale value. Replacement of an existing single-skin tank in a low-risk site can usually remain single-skin — but check with your installer or local authority first.
How long does delivery take?
Standard nationwide delivery is 3–5 working days to every county in the Republic of Ireland. Larger commercial tanks (over 5,000L) may require a 7–10 day lead time. We offer free delivery on orders over €500 and a tail-lift option for kerbside drop-off.
Do you install or just deliver?
We supply and deliver — installation should be carried out by an OFTEC-registered installer. We can recommend installers in your county on request, and we work with several nationwide partners for large commercial fits.
What warranty comes with the tank?
All our oil tanks come with the full manufacturer warranty — typically 10 years on Kingspan Titan and Carbery bunded tanks, 2–5 years on single-skin and dispensing tanks. Your warranty certificate ships with the tank and is registered automatically.
Can I get a trade account?
Yes. Trade accounts include net-30 terms, volume pricing, and a dedicated account manager. Open to plumbers, OFTEC installers, builders, agricultural merchants and commercial operators. Apply online and we'll come back within one business day.
What's the difference between heating oil and waste oil tanks?
Heating oil tanks (kerosene / gas oil) are designed for clean fuel and ventilated installation. Waste oil tanks are heavier-walled and rated for the higher viscosity and contamination of used motor oils — typically specified for garages, workshops and agricultural settings. Don't substitute one for the other.
Do you offer finance or payment plans?
We accept all major cards, bank transfer, and offer Klarna for orders under €1,500. For larger commercial or agricultural orders, contact our trade desk to discuss staged payments.
