The Silt Separator level alarm instrument is specially designed for oil and water separators and grease traps. It is approved according to ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU.The forecourt separator indicates when it is time to empty the separator and thus prevents harmful hydrocarbon emissions to the sewer system.

British European Standard EN 858-1 and Environment Agency Pollution Prevention Guideline PPG3 requires that all separators are to be fitted with an oil level alarm system and that it should be installed and fitted by a suitably qualified technician so that it will respond to an alarm condition when the separator requires emptying.

Irish regulations
Installation & requirements
OFTEC regulation
All domestic oil tank installations in Ireland must be carried out by an OFTEC-registered technician. The tank must conform to IS:293 and be sited in accordance with IS:820.
Site requirements
The tank must stand on a level, load-bearing concrete base minimum 100 mm thick, extending 300 mm beyond the tank footprint on all sides. Ground must be clear of vegetation.
Bunding requirements
Bunded tanks are required within 10 m of a watercourse or drain. Secondary containment must hold 110% of the inner tank capacity. Check local planning conditions before installation.
