BIOFICIENT FILTER MEDIA
Wastewater is treated in relatively small aeration tank partially filled with these moving bed media aerated filters. ("Hair Curlers"), providing a surface where a biofilm can grow. Oxygen is introduced via bubble diffused air also moving around the media.
The media design gives a high surface area which promotes the growth of bacteria and other organisms (biomass) which actively treat the wastewater.

Irish regulations
Installation & requirements
OFTEC regulation
All domestic oil tank installations in Ireland must be carried out by an OFTEC-registered technician. The tank must conform to IS:293 and be sited in accordance with IS:820.
Site requirements
The tank must stand on a level, load-bearing concrete base minimum 100 mm thick, extending 300 mm beyond the tank footprint on all sides. Ground must be clear of vegetation.
Bunding requirements
Bunded tanks are required within 10 m of a watercourse or drain. Secondary containment must hold 110% of the inner tank capacity. Check local planning conditions before installation.
