Unlike more traditional septic tank designs, the Alpha has a shallow-dig profile, which can reduce the amount of excavation needed. Its neck can also be trimmed to lower the invert level, a useful option where ground conditions rule out a conventional deep installation.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eHow a septic tank works\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWastewater from the property is held in the tank long enough for solids to settle at the bottom and form a sludge layer, which is partly broken down by anaerobic digestion. The clarified liquid then flows out through the outlet pipe to a drainage field.
